People should be in no doubt that this Government will do absolutely everything necessary to restore order to Britain’s streets and to make them safe for law abiding citizens.
I completely condemn the violent scenes that we have witnessed over the past 4 days and, like many of my constituents, I support tough countermeasures to tackle this yobbish behaviour and wanton destruction of homes and businesses – including the use of water cannons and baton rounds if the police deem them necessary. The perpetrators of these shocking acts of criminality must be punished with the full force of the law.
16,000 Metropolitan Police were on the streets of London last night and this robust show of strength resulted in a much quieter night across the capital. In our own area, Bromley Police are continuing to work incredibly hard to ensure that order is maintained.
I will be in Parliament tomorrow where the Prime Minister will be making a statement to the House and chairing Cobra and Cabinet meetings. I have been informed that all options are being kept on the table and the Government will do whatever necessary to restore law and order.
Stay vigilant, keep in regular contact with your children and report any serious disturbances to the Police so that they can prevent violence escalating within Bromley.
