On Friday I spent a few hours in the British Heart Foundation shop in Bromley High Street to meet with staff and lend a helping hand with customers during the afternoon. It was great to have a clear out and donate some of my unwanted items to the shop too!
Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer, responsible for almost 74,000 deaths in the UK each year – a staggering 200 people die from this disease every day. The research the BHF fund has revolutionised the way heart conditions are diagnosed and treated, and BHF shops raised £31 million in funds last year alone. 100% of the profits raised from donations goes into the fight against heart disease.
It was nice to meet Abilio, Jackie, Lacey and Jamie (pictured above), and the BHF staff were keen to point out that they are always on the look-out for more volunteers, so even if you can only spare an hour, please do pop in to find out more. Equally, BHF Bromley rely on donations, so any unwanted items such as clothes, shoes, accessories, books and DVDs would be much appreciated. The shop also offers a free collection service, which is available by calling 0800 915 3000.
