On Friday 19th October, Bob payed a visit to the local Scope charity shop in Bromley to hear from the shop manager and volunteers about a new campaign the disability charity has launched to get better support for disabled children and their families.
With the UK housing more than half a million families with a disabled child, and an estimated 70,000 of these living in London alone, the charity is calling on the Government to make it easier for families to get the support they need close to home by launching a new campaign called ‘Keep us close’.
The Bromley shop, which normally plays host to bargain hunters looking for the latest fashions, books and bric a brac, will be talking to customers and local residents about the campaign and encouraging them to sign petition cards.
After the visit, Bob said:
“It was a pleasure to meet Wendy and her staff and to hear about Scope’s latest campaign. Children with special education needs or a disability are not always well served by the current system, which is why this Government is listening to the concerns of their families and taking considerable steps to put that right. Through this campaign, people in Bromley have a great opportunity to have their say on an issue which, sadly, affects a number of families in our local area.”
Wendy Howden, Scope Shop Manager in Bromley said:
“We’ll all be working really hard to drum up as much support for the campaign from our customers and local residents so we can hand lots of petition cards to the MP and demonstrate how much the people of Bromley care about this issue.
“Come down to the shop, pick up a bargain and by signing one of our petition cards you can help make a real difference to the lives of thousands of families with disabled children”.
