On Saturday I stopped off at the Rotary Club of Chislehurst’s Summer Fair. As always, the fair never fails to disappoint, and it was particularly good to catch-up with some of our local voluntary organisations that work so hard to make Chislehurst the place it is, including members of the Chislehurst Society and the Trustees of Chislehurst Commons (pictured above).
Whilst a great range of entertainment was on hand throughout the day, a personal highlight was the Rotary Club’s Shelter Box display. Shelter Box’s provide emergency shelter to communities around the world overwhelmed by disaster and humanitarian crisis. Just this year, the Rotary Club of Chislehurst and their donors have raised £2,360 for this worthy cause, sending two boxes to the Philippines to help with typhoon relief, and two to Syria to provide refugees with much needed accommodation.
Acts of generosity like this - supporting both British and international efforts - speak volumes of our local community here in Chislehurst. We are fortunate enough to have some truly fantastic voluntary organisations in the area, and many of them were showcasing their work at the Summer Fair on Saturday. Well done to everyone involved!
