Before Lidl can even contemplate demolishing the pub, there are strict requirements in planning law that require it to submit a ‘Part 31’ notification to the council. This is an entirely separate process from a notification of intended demolition under the Building Act and it would give residents an opportunity to submit comments to the council.
Contrary to what Lidl’s representative said at the residents’ meeting last night, approval for demolition has not been granted already, because the council are yet to receive this formal notification.
I am meeting with a senior Lidl representative on Monday to discuss this case further.
