A market has taken place in the pedestrian part of Bromley town since 1997 and it continues to provide a popular alternative shopping experience in this thriving town centre. On Thursday 5 July, the 807 year old Bromley Charter Market, which presently operates every Thursday in a Council car park in Bromley North, will be relocating to the town centre market location. This will then create a three-day market in the town centre.
In advance of this move, and coinciding with Love Your Local Market fortnight, local MP Bob Neill visited Bromley Market alongside market manager Peter Turvey and local councillor, Will Harmer.
Commenting on the visit, Bob said:
“Bromley market is a vital and vibrant part of our town’s shopping experience and its traders deserve our support as they play a hugely important role in local economic life.
“I am very pleased that Bromley is set to have a three-day market in the town centre and I would definitely encourage budding entrepreneurs and shopkeepers to try their hand at operating a low-cost retail business at the market.”
Bob has also endorsed the town team’s bid for Bromley North Village to become a Portas Pilot. If its application is successful, the area would receive additional Government funding to bring back into use an empty retail premise on the high street, creating an entrepreneurial hub for young people in the area and providing a much-needed venue for aspiring designers and traders to network and showcase their work.
