On Friday 27 May, the Government launched a public consultation on a revised School Admissions and School Admission Appeals Codes. The new system will be designed to make the admissions system simpler, fairer and stronger. The consultation will run until 19 August, with a revised set of Codes ready by September 2011.
A number of constituents have experienced a huge amount of difficulty with the current admissions process and it is excellent news that this Government is taking action to improve how it operates. In particular, I welcome the fact that these new codes will make it clearer and easier for all parents to know how they can find the right school place for their child. I would urge residents with an interest in this area to submit their views on the new draft Codes via the Department for Education’s website: www.education.gov.uk/consultations
The consultation will run from 27 May 2011 until 19 August 2011.
